Cúram magazine is a print and digital magazine resource for members of Social Care Ireland. It features reflective, practice-based content aimed at supporting learning and development across the sector, with contributions welcomed from a wide range of voices. Our current Editorial team consists of Laura Doyle and Hernán Tena Cortés. We welcome a wide range of submissions from practitioners, educators, researchers, students and those with an interest in the field of social care.

Guidelines for Submission:

Themes & Content

We accept a wide range of articles, opinion pieces, case studies, and reflections on topics such as:

  • Reflective practice and professional development
  • Emerging trends, policies and reports in social care
  • Practice innovation and case studies
  • Advocacy, human rights and ethics in care
  • Self-care and well-being for social care professionals
  • Updates on social care events and/or publications

Submission Types & Suggested Word Limits

  • Feature articles: 1,500–2,500 words
  • Opinion/ reflective pieces: 800–1,500 words
  • Updates on events: 600-1,000 words
  • Book/publication reviews: 600–1,000 words

Writing Guidelines

  • Submissions should be clear, engaging, and accessible to a broad readership.
  • Use UK English spelling and grammar.
  • Avoid jargon or overly academic language—write in an engaging, professional tone.
  • Where applicable, support claims with evidence, references (Harvard style if used), or real-world examples.
  • Ensure adherence to GDPR and confidentiality throughout submission.

Formatting

  • Submit as a Word document (.doc or .docx) or Google Docs link.
  • Use 12pt Arial or Times New Roman, double-spaced and justified.
  • Include a title, author’s full name, and a short bio (50-100 words) at the end.
  • If including images, ensure you have permission and provide captions.

Submission and Review Process

  • Email your submission to curam@socialcareireland.ie.
  • Upon receipt of your submission one of the Editorial Team will confirm that they have received your submission.
  • Our editorial team reviews all submissions and will notify you of the outcome within four weeks.
  • Some articles may require revisions; if so, you will receive feedback and a deadline for resubmission.

  • By submitting, you grant us the right to publish your work in print and digital formats.
