Social Care Ireland is delighted to collaborate on this project with Charlotte Knight, a Supported Self-Directed Living (SSDL) Trainer and Consultant, and Pamela Mansell, an SSDL Trainer, Executive Coach, and Consultant.
This taster workshop is ideal for social care practitioners with no prior knowledge of Social Role Valorisation (SRV) who want to learn more. The session provides a concise introduction to key concepts, including social devaluation, wounding, the power of roles, and how they can drive positive change in the lives of marginalised individuals. The aim of this session is to focus on the power of valued social roles, and to encourage and inspire, offering capacity based perspectives and leaving participants hungry to know more!
This workshop gives participants a practical introduction to the principles of Social Role Valorization. Through a combination of multimedia presentation and group discussion, participants will learn about the phenomenon of social devaluation. This event includes discussion of how people with disabilities and other devalued groups have been systematically hurt and harmed by society, and what the impact of that devaluation has been. Participants will also learn about ways to help people have better lives by supporting them to achieve positive valued social roles. We will discuss practical strategies to make this a reality for the people you support by exploring ways to co-create good lives with people, families and fellow citizens.
*All programmes are delivered by Charlotte Knight (SSDL Trainer and Consultant) and Pamela Mansell (SSDL Trainer, Exec Coach and Consultant)
