The Importance of Play presented by Joanna Fortune.

Date: Tuesday, October 25th (10.30 – 12.30)

This talk will be on the importance of developmental play for children of all abilities.  Joanna Fortune will introduce the stages of developmental play and why they matter, what kind of play meets these developmental needs in children of special needs and will highlight her 15 minute play per day system (from my book 15 minute parenting – the quick and easy way to connect with your child).  All participants will leave with some handouts with the main points and some practical play techniques they can start using at home straight away.

Biography: Joanna Fortune (MICP; MIFPP; Reg Pract APPI; Ap Sup PTIrl) is a Clinical Psychotherapist specialising in child and adolescent Psychothera-py with over 15 years experience working with children and families. She is a Supervisor with Play Therapy Ireland/UK for over 7 years. Joanna has worked in the NGO sector in Ireland for 12 years (with charities including ISPCC/CARI/Bray Women’s Refuge/To Russia With Love) at frontline and senior management levels specialising in a range of challenging issues. She is a Child Attachment Specialist.

She has completed an 18 month infant observation and has completed additional trainings in all areas of Attachment disorder including Story Stem Assessment Profiling, Child Attachment Interview and Mentalisation Based Therapy (with the Anna Freud Centre London), Play Therapy (APAC/PTIrl/University of Chichester) and Theraplay Level 1 & 2 & her practicum (with the World Theraplay Organisation) and was trained in a clinical supervision group with members of Espace Analytique from Paris. Joanna also does a lot of peri-natal psychother-apy work having completed a clinical rotation in Holles Street National Maternity Hospital.
