Biography: Michelle Lefevre is Professor of Social Work at the University of Sussex, where her teaching and research interests centre around practice improvement in children’s services, direct work with children, young people and parents, and child & adolescent safeguarding. Michelle has recently led the Innovate Project (www.theinnovateproject.co.uk), a four year study funded by the Economic and Social Research Council, which has considered a) the processes of innovation, and b) promising new approaches to addressing the safeguarding risks young people experience beyond the family home, such as child exploitation. Prior to her academic career, Michelle practised as a social worker and arts psychotherapist with children and families in the context of child protection concerns. Michelle was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2015 for her practice-focused work on developing social workers’ skills in engaging and communicating with children.
