Critical Incident Stress Management (Six-day course) IT Carlow

Due to popular demand and influx of applications already received, we have to close the application date earlier than expected, interested applicants please submit before Tuesday 18th January at 5pm. We are hoping to run a similar course later on this year.

Participants must book all six days together,

The first day is a full day onsite at IT Carlow

Followed by a series of four evening and full day virtual workshops;

The sixth day is onsite at IT Carlow

Time: 9.30-17.00 (onsite) 09:30-12:00/13:30-16:30 (Online) 17.00-19.30 (online)

Cost: FREE SCI members; requires a deposit of €100. The deposit is refundable on completion of 80% of the course.

Social Care Ireland (SCI) have joined with the Institute of Technology Carlow Extended Campus, to offer a module in Critical Incident Stress Management. This advanced level course will appeal to social care practitioners who have no previous training or CPD activities in this area.

The module consists of primarily online teaching in March between 9.30 am to 5 pm as well as independent study. We hope that the first and final day can take place in person onsite at IT Carlow. Participants can earn 10 ECTS on completion of the course. This is a public programme NFQ level 8. The course is free and requires a deposit of €100. The deposit is refundable on completion of 80% of the course.

An application form is available now for those wishing to apply for a place on the course, the closing date for applications on the 7th February 2022. Applicants will need to secure the support of their employer to release them from work duties on the dates below so that they can participate in the course.

Continuous assessment:

Students will be required to keep a learning log that will record a critique of actual practices relating to an actual practical problem solving activity

Assignment distributed: Day 1
50% Assignment due: 21/03/2022
50% Practical intervention: Final Day

• Identify the indicators of stress following a critical incident
• Have an understanding of the role of properly trained Peer Support workers in an organisation

• Understand the legal imperatives on employers to provide critical incident stress supports
• Understand measures in psychosocial risk to inform levels of staff supports required in their area
• Appreciate the cost benefits of a CISM Programme

This course has been funded by the HSCP Office, HSE. As such, places are available to social care workers working in the publicly funded healthcare service.
