Location

The position is based in our Residential Service at Wellsprings, Wandesford Quay, Cork, and in our Outreach Service at Bethany, Sharman Crawford Street, Cork.

 

Details of Services

Wellsprings Care & Aftercare Services is comprised of a residential and an outreach service.

The residential component offers a service for up to eight young women between the ages of 16 and 23.  Here we wish to create a home like environment for these young women who need alternative accommodation in that they may be out of home, or require further assistance to make the transition from residential or foster care to independent living.

An outreach programme, providing support when living in the community, is offered to all who have been in Wellsprings, and we also take direct referrals to the programme.

Referrals are taken from:

  • Tusla Child and Family Agency;
  • Addiction treatment centres;
  • Probation services;
  • Hospitals;
  • Self referrals for those who are over 18;
  • Others.

The outreach service works with up to 60 women offering differing levels of supports and interventions.

 

 

Principal Duties

  1. To work as part of a team in meeting the objectives set out by the organization in our strategic plan.

 

  1. To provide for the day to day care needs of each resident, incorporating the agreed care plan and placement plan objectives.

 

  1. To prepare meals when appropriate, paying attention to the significance of food in the lives of the residents

 

  1. To ensure that Wellsprings is kept at an acceptable level of hygiene and tidiness, reporting any maintenance that needs to be attended to.

 

  1. To observe and be familiar with the Health and Safety procedures and legislation, in particular the action plan and evacuation procedure in the event of fire.

 

  1. To have a supportive role in the after-care of each girl leaving Wellsprings

 

  1. To work such shifts, including sleep-ins, as required to maintain adequate staff cover.

 

  1. To ensure that all monies are satisfactorily accounted for and receipts submitted.

 

 

As a relief worker you may be required:

 

  • To take responsibility as a key worker for a specific resident for a period of time, or shared responsibility with another staff member.

 

  • To undertake case management responsibility including, maintenance of files, appropriate recording, collating of information, writing review, case conference and court reports as required.

 

  • In consultation with the young people, their social workers, parents and other professionals, to formulate and to regularly update a viable placement plan for each key resident.

 

  • To implement the objectives as stated in the young person’s placement plan.

 

  • To agree with key resident a set of objectives in training for independent living, to plan and review each goal on a regular basis and report to the team on progress achieved.

 

  • To be available to facilitate and assist residents to to talk through and work out problems in an appropriate manner.

 

  • To attend and participate in group work and general house meetings with the residents.

 

  • To establish and maintain good working relationships with resident’s families and other significant people in their lives.

 

  • To be vigilant to resident’s concerns and complaints. To follow complaints through to a conclusion in consultation with other staff members and the unit manager, using the formal complaints procedure if necessary.  To record all complaints using the appropriate documentation.

 

 

  • To ensure that adequate records and documentation are maintained in accordance with procedures.

 

  • To observe and be familiar with the Health and Safety procedures and legislation, in particular the action plan and evacuation procedure in the event of fire

 

  • To ensure that all monies are satisfactorily accounted for and receipts submitted.

 

  • To keep the Manager informed on all matters relating to the resident’s welfare.

 

 

Professional development

You will be required:

 

  • To attend regular supervision sessions with your supervisor
  • To attend and participate at in-service training sessions and other training courses as deemed as appropriate
  • To ensure that you are meeting your Continuous Professional Development (CPD) obligation in relation to Professional Registration

 

Other

You will be required:

 

  • To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, as allocated by the Manager.
