Two Part Webinar Series – An Introduction to Ethics and Ethical Reasoning with Prof. Lindy McAllister – 8th and 10th October 2024
This webinar is in two parts: (you must commit to attending BOTH days)
In part 1 on the 8th October (2 hours – 10am – 12pm) introduces participants to the concepts and principles of ethics, considers different approaches to ethical reasoning, and gives participants guided opportunities to reason through ways of managing ethical dilemmas provided by the facilitator.
In part 2 on the 10th October (1.5 hours – 10am – 11:30am) participants are guided to reason through ways of managing de-identified and anonymous ethical dilemmas provided by the participants.
At the conclusion of the webinar participants will be able to:
- Understand the values, duties and principals of ethics
- Identify values, duties and principals involved in simple case studies
- Understand different approaches to ethical reasoning and their uses
- Apply an ethical reasoning and decision-making process to consideration of case studies and identify issues involved (ethical, clinical, workforce, policy, management)
Speaker Bio –
Lindy McAllister, PhD, is an Emeritus Professor at The University of Sydney. She is a Life Member of the Speech Pathology Association of Australia (SPA), and Fellow of the RCSLT. She was made a Member of the Order of Australia in the King’s Birthday Honours list in June 2023 for contributions to the development of speech pathology education and services in Australia and Vietnam. Lindy was a senior member of the Ethics Board of SPA for many years, has published a book, education packages and several papers about ethics education, and has provided ethics education to a range of allied health disciplines. She provides curriculum consultancy to a range of universities in Australia and internationally.
