What is Non Violent Resistance?
The Non Violent Resistance (NVR) model includes a brief, systemic and evidence-based response to child to parent violence & abuse. It aims to empower & support parents/carers in preventing & responding to the violent and controlling behaviour of children and teenagers.

This is an interdisciplinary event, Social Care Ireland are collaborating with the Association of Occupational Therapist of Ireland.  We have worked jointly on similar events like Motivational Interviewing, that have been very successful. (SFBT) is an effective, respectful, and powerful tool for workers in the health and social care field. SFBT focuses on client’s resources and skills, rather than on their deficits and weaknesses to help them to find solutions and create preferred futures rather than dwelling on past failures.

Social Care Ireland are delighted to collaborate with Dr Karen Treisman with this full- day workshop on creative ways to support our own and others emotional regulation. As we know many of us and the children, parents, and adults we support can struggle with regulating their emotions. This might be due to worry, stress, trauma, low mood, cognitive difficulties, and various other reasons. With this in mind, it is crucial to support ourselves and others to regulate.

This is an introductory programme which will prepare learners to be able to understand and clearly identify their role in supporting the needs for this very vulnerable and complex group of service users.  It will also prepare learners if they wanted to undertake a more comprehensive programme with the National Institute of Intellectual Disability Studies.

This is a collaborative one-day workshop between Social Care Ireland and the Irish Association of Social Work. With this in mind it has been designed for those who have come to realise that that the ‘wait and hope’ approach to navigating conflict is not effective.  Instead, one can learn to proactively navigate conflict, ensuring that all voices are heard, and that the most workable and practical solution can be implemented.  Navigating conflict is our new mind-set, in which we help teams move from conflict to constructive disagreement as a catapult to high performance.

This is an interdisciplinary event between Social Care Ireland and the Irish Association of Social Work. We attempt or avoid difficult conversations every day-whether dealing with an underperforming employee, disagreeing with a spouse, or negotiating with a client. Difficult conversations are anything that someone does not want to talk about, such as asking for a raise or complaining to a neighbour about his barking dog.  People are usually reluctant to open a difficult conversation out of fear of the consequences. Typically, when the conversation does occur the parties think and feel a lot more than they actually say.

Social Care Ireland are delighted to welcome back Caitriona and Kayla, they facilitated a workshop at the Annual Conference in Sligo in April.  Both are frontline workers. Participants will learn how to recognize, react and respond to someone experiencing a suicidal crisis. This 5 hour training course will give participants the knowledge, skills and confidence to intervene in a suicide situation.

Social Care Ireland in collaboration with the National Institute of Intellectual Disability Services (NIIDS) are facilitating this 7 day programme.  Provide frontline staff with a framework for understanding and addressing the problems that arise when an individual has both intellectual disabilities and mental health difficulties and possibly a personality disorder. It provides staff with a range of creative strategies which they can use as effective approaches.

In light of the year ahead, with Coru registration finally on the horizon. The theme of the conference explores all the relationships we have within our practice, with each other, our colleagues and the people we support. How do we critically reflect on these relationship- based practices, promote and protect them in a more regulated environment.
